I don't know the reason, maybe it's because they are Commonwealth countries, British rule and all that.

My mother-in-law belongs to a an Ontarian group which have been fighting it since 1975. Little or no success to date.

She's probably part of the Canadian Alliance of British Pensioners mentioned in the article above.

But I'd think there would be certain advantages in being a Commonwealth country. I'm not sure what you were trying to say. :?

Just a quirky point of view.

If the British Government does not want to shell out more money, then being a part of Britain (sort of) would make it easier to withhold.

A non colonial country can tell the Brits to put up, or else.....

I really do not know the reason, the British bureaucrats have been stonewalling for a long time.

I'm not sure why your pension should change where you collect it. It’s your pension you paid for it and all. You would think the British government would be happy that seniors would leave the country. With all the health related costs they might bring there it could save them some money.

My mother and father in-law both collect a British pension that is locked. Never heard them complain about it.......other than the Canadian dollar being stronger as of late.

Is it also fixed going the other way, as in a Canadian retiring in Britain?

I thought there would have been a Commonwealth advantage too.
