The city I live has adopted front garbage pickup, For the 15 years I lived here I never really thought about garbage pickup, on the way to work I tossed my garbage bags in to the garbage stand in the alley and sometime during the week it dissappered. Now we have to put the garbage on the front street on a certain day before midnight, I have a collection calender on the fridge and I have a weeks worth of garbage beside my deck, the cats are a serious pest and keeping them away is a full time job, even a closed garbage can can be knocked over and spread around . If you miss your day (they keep changing) you will have two weeks to deal with and at 80 degrees in the summer I just give up and take it to the dump. The real bad part is the people who refuse to change or don't care throw the bags on the front street all week and this really looks bad, although the cats and dogs are really happy. On windy days whole bags tumble down the street and vandels tear them apart, the city refuses to listen to any complaints and insisits its easier for the garbage men to pick up in front than in the back. Walmarts always looking for a few good men and maybe a change would do them some good.
Why do I refer to the city council as garbage nazis? because there was no vote or any kind of public forum this whole scheme was cooked up behaind closed doors by a local millionare that got the collection contract he wanted every household to rent a $50 plastic can for $50 a year. This part of the plan has failed big time as I have only seen a few around the city and even they are starting to dissappear.
