There is a company in one of the malls buying gold.
Since I will need an assessment, I took a few pieces down to them,
and asked how much they would give me.
Went home, crunched some numbers, figured out they're offering about half it's real value. Nice profit for them....
Word to the wise, be very careful selling off any gold these days,
you probably are not getting anything close to market price.

What did you get an assessment on? For coins and bullion I will deal with J&M Coin and Jewelery Ltd on Broadway only. They have a shop in one of the local malls which I found was a total ripoff.

'Scrap gold'... I love that term.
Like 'used diamonds' or 'junk platinum'.

There is a jeweler in my immediate family, so we keep close track of the price of gold. Most of the "We'll buy your gold" places are complete sh!t.
If you want to sell gold, your best bet will probably be to the people who sell precious metals to jewelers, like Rio Grande. They don't make money on the metal itself, but on the foundry fees. For example, they charge so much extra per ounce for flat plate, and more extra per ounce for square tubing.
