1941, meet 2007., and except for weight, it would probably be just as good.

Georgy Shpagin's invention is not exactly optimized for sniping but a laser sight or quick-point seems a bit G**.
Without its 72 round drum it's not really that heavy but it's cartridge is a puny loser.
Reliable as a stone hammer and I still marvel about the crudity of some of the wartime examples. But even they sported a barrel that was chrome-plated inside and out.
