Haha, well that's not gonna help them to make a fast getaway if they happen to get a call. :P

I guess it's way different in a town like mine compared to a larger city centre. Our paramedics work a kilo shift, meaning they don't have to be at the station, and are called from pagers which which delays their response time. We arrive on scene before them about 90% of the time. They might get two calls a day. All day.

Then there are the large cities who actually have full time paramedics working, and are doing sometimes 8-12 calls a day, even though what is considered acceptable is something like 5 or 6.

Ours get about 20 calls a day and we only have about 10,000 people in the pass.
We do have lots of older folks though so that where most of the calls go to.

I've been in Safeway when the fire truck has pulled up so they could do some shopping, but they never block traffic or plug up the emergency lane.

These guys are jerks.

I've seen that dozens of times.

Yup, I know an EMT in Nipawin that says some of them use it like a taxi service. It doen's impress him at all.

They did the same in Kenora only they used the evac chopper instead. A gross violation that should be charged to whatever reservation the call came from.

Fraud charges might also be in order.

This kind of abuse was curtailed in Ft.Nelson. Several people from Ft.Liard,N.W.T. were using the ambulance as a taxi service. To put an end to it, if 'the patient' wasn't admitted to the hospital for an overnight stay, the Band got a bill for the trip!

I was heading into the store when they pulled up, they both got out and went in ahead of me without any life saving equipment, just walked in. So I kind of hung back to see what was going on and they grab a basket and started shopping for groceries. So I had a confrontation with them, tried to convince them to go park the fucking wagon if they were just here to pick up some grub. This is actually a street connecting a Timmies at one end, to an A&W and Mickey D’s at the other end with a mall in between, so kind of a busy street and they got a fucking ambulance bottle necking it in the middle. And to add to that, people now had to either walk out from in front or from behind it into traffic to get to their cars.

The driver told me they were on duty and they could park where ever they wanted to, they couldn’t be expected to run across the parking lot to the ambulance if they got a call. Well what the hell are they doing, going shopping in the first place then? It’s not like it’s a firehall ambulance, it belongs to a private company and they don’t have a kitchen in their shop.

So what we have here is an emergency vehicle plugging up an emergency lane, putting other people’s lives at risk as well as parked on the wrong side of the street facing traffic, all for a personal shopping trip. Give me a fucking break.

Like don't ever just drop off the assistant and then get the fuck out of the way and sit there with the motor running, waiting for that call. I took this picture after I picked up what I needed and they were still in the store.
