Nahh, you need a credit card, to create a credit history
if you want something like a house.

So get one ( or two ), just dont use it.
Most CC companies only make reports on late pyaments or defaults.

I have one new car, and prolly the only one.. cash.

Walked in, ordered up, took my 15% discount,
transferred a wad, picked up the car in 4 weeks... easy :)

Yeah I agree that it is a good idea to have one, however using it for everyday things is something I don't want to get myself into.

I have a checking account now which I use to pay bills.

And actually, I applied for a student credit card and I was denied because of the fact that I did not have any credit. So I am still looking for a place to apply for one. Chances are though, its going to be high interest.

Use the card once a month (or every other month) to buy yourself dinner or something equally small. Have the cash in hand, hit the bank the next day and pay it off completely. By not carrying a balance, they won't charge interest. You don't need to wait for the bill or any of that jazz. Keep doing that and you'll have a bullet proof credit rating.

Really? Up here the companies are throwing them at students. They set up booths during frosh week and signed up loads and it seemed like every day there were at least a couple of students in the SLC wandering around asking/pestering people if they wanted to sign up for one.

They really came in handy when I was travelling abroad though but you are right. They can get you into trouble and quickly too.

Try one of the prepaid cards, you load it up and can use it when ever you want while building a credit history. Most of them only charge you extra if go over what you put on it. Lets face it it's always a good thing to have $500 worth of credit handy cause you never know.

I have a credit card (mastercard) that I use daily (credit union), but behaves like a debit card. So I don't get a monthly bill that scares the shit out of me. I also have a TD visa, that I NEVER use. That one is only for emergencies.
I pay the bills here too, and my credit score is fantastic.
