Ok this is my official "I hate oil companies" thread. Gas as of today January 26, is 91 cent's a liter in Prince George BC. I know it's usually a little cheaper down south for whatever reason. I have been hearing from people on the forum that in Toronto it was in the upper sixties so I found a site to look for myself.
Gastips.com
I checked out the Greater Toronto area, and sure enough I found a station that's selling it as low as 67 cent's a liter. WTF?????? There's no bloody way it's cheaper to get fuel to Toronto than it is to PG. I mean we have a Husky refinery right in the city. So what is it? Competition? Do gas stations actually compete for customers in Toronto? I mean it's getting fucking rediculous. Oil has dropped from a high of 70+ dollars a barrel to somewhere in the 50 range now and we have seen hardly a drop in price at all here. Then I check the Vancouver prices and they are the same as PG, but they have a 5 cent tax over what we pay in PG. I don't say this about a lot of things, but I think we need some government controls on gas, because we are getting fucked over bigtime in BC. According to a government website Ontario even has slightly more tax on gasoline than BC does. The worst thing is what can we do about it? We need gasoline to go to work so it's not like we can stop buying it. I can't stand greedy corporations. I can't stand high real estate prices either but that is for another rant.

98.7 Here in PE and so cold I have to waste about a quarter of a tank a week just to let the car warm up.
I would dare say it could be termed as consumer rape......I just wish they would put on a rubber before they screwed me.

79.9 in town this week so it could be up to 5 cents cheaper in the cities of Sarnia and London.
Toronto is the capital of gas price wars. Some gas stations in the Toronto area can probably sell gas at rock bottom prices because of a huge volume of sales.

I’m 60 miles closer to a refinery than what Calgary is and we’re paying 0.82, Calgary is around 0.75 pre liter. We’ve been told our prices have been high because we have a gas shortage this winter caused by unexpected refinery shut downs. And this summer we’ll be told we have a shortage due to annual maintenance. There was a time when maintenance was done in the winter when demand was low.
There’s no other industry in the world that could operate in such an incompetent manner but still be rewarded with record profits because of artificial shortages caused by the industry. I watched an annalist from Alberta explaining why Toronto has cheap gas, and of course it was the same old bs about it being such a warm winter, and their making more gas than heating fuel, what shocked me was the next thing that came out of his mouth. He went on to say why Toronto had stable prices in the summer, it was because Europe has a surplus in the summer and Ontario brings in tanker ship loads of European gas, I have to call bullshit on that until someone proofs me wrong. Now they have their poll come out saying gas is at it’s cheapest in 2 years, my gas was 0.04 cheaper before they gouged us for the Christmas season. Assholes.
Here’s another one that pisses me off, Ontario usually pays less for natural gas than we do in Alberta. When the inquiring mines want to know why, we are told it’s because Ontario buys it’s winter gas supply in July when the price is at it’s lowest. Then we ask why can’t Alberta do that ? And then this is when i almost throw a shoe. The oil companies say it’s because Alberta has no storage facilities, HOLY FUCK the whole province is a storage facility. As far as I know the only storage Ontario has, is what’s in the pipelines at any given time.

80.9 is the lowest...
Yeah, it confuses me as to why, when I live in the province that has oil under my feet, we pay mroe then they do in Toronto...

I just gased up the truck, which cost in excess of $600 a month to run.
Here's what the receipt says:
Cost for gas was $59.07
FET @L is 6.57
PFT @L is10.18
HST 214% 7.25
Total taxes $24.00
Total for gas:35.07
So it's purdy clear that we pay provincial tax and then federal tax and then we pay a harmanized tax which is the Fed and Provincal tax so the governments are double dipping at the pump. It should be a crime, but hay it's the Government.

This is one area that I am disappointed with the Conservatives. When they were in opposition they bitched and moaned about the government charging GST on the price of gas after tax. Now that they are in government they have done sweet fuck all to ease the pain at the pumps. Not one bloody thing. But of course you know what they tell people. The GST reduction should help out in the long run. Fuck you Harper reduce my gas tax you hypocritical POS.

I agree Ruez, we already (see above post) pay Prov. and Fed tax on gas and on top of that they charge us HST or GST, it's called double dipping and yet it continues. The Governments are the big earners on gas, not the supplier or the gas stations.
It's the same with booze, taxes going to the Government Fed and Provincal and then again HST and GST. I'm beginning to think those who call us Sheeple are correct because we never stand up and protest these injustices.
