Arrest leads Edmonton police to child porn ring
Updated Wed. Mar. 8 2006 11:25 PM ET

CTV.ca News Staff

An Edmonton man who said he looked at violent child porn "to make the feelings go away" was a key figure in an international child pornography ring, police said.

Carl Edmond Treleaven, 49, pleaded guilty to distributing child porn last month after police raided his home.

At his sentencing hearing Tuesday, Treleaven apologized and told the court he needed help for his addiction to child porn.

He was at the centre of an international child pornography network spanning Canada, the United States, England and Australia.

Police told the Edmonton Sun that more arrests are imminent in the worldwide investigation, which led investigators to photos of the rape of young children and babies -- including a newborn.

How exactly does he get away with 3 and a half years ? What kind of retarded backward world are we living in when deals are made with people like him. Before ya harp on me for it .. Karla got 12 years and no I am not happy about that one either but it's more acceptable than this guys 3 and 1/2 years.

Gratz Carl you have joined a small but exclusive club right now it sits at 3 people. Given the sheer amount of vile disgusting acts perpetrated against children that have been in the news lately I suspect that enrollment will be increasing.

New murder charge laid in Manitoba girl's death
Canadian Press

WINNIPEG — RCMP upgraded charges against a mother and her common-law husband Wednesday in the death of their five-year-old daughter, even as more questions were raised about Manitoba's child welfare system.

Samantha Dawn Kematch and Karl Wesley McKay both face counts of first-degree murder in the death of Phoenix Sinclair. Kematch had earlier been charged with non-homicide offences, including assault with a weapon and failure to provide the necessities of life, while McKay had initially been charged with second-degree murder.

Police allege Phoenix, who was put in foster care shortly after her birth and returned to her mother in 2003, was abused with objects that included a broom handle and killed on the Fisher River reserve north of Winnipeg last June.

Phoenix had been missing for nine months, but no one appears to have noticed or reported the case to authorities until earlier this month.

The Winnipeg Free Press reported the girl's 12-year-old stepbrother came forward saying she suffered terribly in the weeks before her death.

The newspaper also quoted an unnamed source in Manitoba's Justice Department saying the girl was locked up, shot with a BB gun and deprived of food and water. Hey now see it didn't take long for entrants 4 and 5 into the special club..

Well you know he will be off the streets for 3 years his risks can be naylized and hopefully the proper restrictions to ensure public safety. Now I don't know effectrive this is but the idea of tougher is better is not going to work, it never has.

In theory, but in reality very few convicts serve their entire sentences. He'll probably be out after serving 1/3 - 1/2 his sentence.

I can give a good example of tougher sentencing.

Someone can be analysed and probed all they want, but it can't protect a kid.

When they're locked in a cell, it's sure as hell protecting kids.

I suppose, problem is who's gonna be locked in a cell for how long at who's expence?

Unless everyone is locked in a cell your plan won't work.

At the expense of the victim? Where is the justice for the victims of child porn when an offender is early released back into the community? I understand the concept of rehabilitation and costs, blah, blah, blah....but who explains this to the victim who will live with the effects of this crime for the rest of their life?

You have to remember this is the same justice system that has judges labelling six year olds as sexually aggresive and describing pedophilic porn as having 'artistic merit'. Judges who make rulings like this need to be scrutinized a little more closely themselves.

It is not about the victim it is not about vengence it is about justice and about public safety, and it those objectives are met effeciently the system is working.

I've been following this story and it just makes me sick. I have young children, (one is Autistic), and the thought of these sick f**ks free in society just makes me crazy!

In my opinion, I think they should be castrated, isn't there a way they can do this by medication now? Now before anyone says "what about their rights"...THEY DON'T HAVE ANY RIGHTS!!! When they chose to violate the rights of innocent babies & children with their sick fantacies they lost their "rights".
