I don't think people pay attention to editorials or even advertising and such. If something is repeated, like crime events, or even a striking story is reported then it's noticed. I know my own reading is skimming. Even something technical like economics people will have their own beliefs and systems. Try to tell somebody something simple about economics and you'll only get a lecture. It's all good, the people will respond to a major issue and keep the democracy on track.
