Police say a cyclist who was killed Thursday night in Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, Que. was 63-year-old Lt.-Col. Pierre Labelle.
The lieutenant-colonel died after he was struck by a car along Highway 371 northwest of Quebec City.
The Chicoutimi native who was living in Montreal was taking part in a cadets music camp at CFB Valcartier.
He had been in the Canadian forces for 45 years, serving in Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, and Cyprus.
The 34-year-old driver of the car that collided with Lt.-Col. Labelle suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital.
Police said he could face charges including impaired driving.

Hits hard for me and my brother-in-law. :(

Besides being military, he was riding on a road we've taken our bikes on quite a few times this summer. What I've learned is that the car driver did not break at all before hitting the bike... not even after hitting him... he lost control and crashed after that. Seems he was VERY impaired.

I was wondering if you'd posted it because you genuinely felt bad for the guy's family or if you were going to use this guy's death for some petulant little agenda.

I guess it was the petulant little agenda.

Fuck off with using some guy's death to score a point.

We really need a small island in the middle of the Pacific to send people like this to.

Gotta agree with Gunny here. Way to be Andy, a glorified uncaring, unsympathetic, idealistic son of a bitch.

Rest in Peace Colonel.

Andy is nothing more than a "petulant little agenda".

RIP Colonel.

Who knows, he probably agrees with my agenda. People dying is exactly the point.

Possibly.

Hardly eradicates the fact that you're a thoughtless prick to use him to further your agenda though.

If he agrees with my agenda, he probably doesn't see me as heartless to use him to make my point. That is the final contribution a dead cyclist who wasn't being an idiot can make to improving bike safety. In Australia a bike death resulted in a law being passed that cars must give bikes 1m space when passing.

I'm not being heartless, I'm commiserating. I would hope people would do the same for me if I get taken out.

Look at people's reactions when those 3 were killed in Quebec - "what were they doing on the highway?"

No backpedaling. (nice pun tho) It's using his death to make a point. No apology for it. As I said, I bet he would agree with me.

Well... that's why people think you're a prick. Oddly enough, I doubt you'll sell your agenda that way.
