It's too bad we couldn't trade, I'd be willing to swap my Canadian citizenship for U.S. citizenship, I'd even throw in my EUropean citizenship for free!

Why is the grass always greener?
Every country has it's problems. I can tell you honestly, you do not want to be a part of a country that makes enemies of the rest of the world.
The World HATES the US. Safer to be from anywhere else.... except maybe Italy... US declared open season on Italians.

I care a lot less about a country's international image than I do the day to day lifestyle it provides, and for that I've found the U.S. in a lot of ways is almost too good to be true in comparsion. IMO Canada was a great country once, maybe even the greatest, but these days Canada is little more than a cheerless 2nd rate version of the U.S. whos' culture somehow manages to reflect some of the worst aspects of Blue and Red State culture but without the upsides.

To each his own, right? I couldn't *stand* living in the States. I felt like I was being crammed into a little box where I had to conform and agree but up here people just accept me for who I am. So, yeah. Day to day life in Canada is much better for me.

gotcha
That being said, it's none of my biz, but, I would be careful about dicussing moving to Canada as an illegal in a public forum. I know it's frowned upon in the States and I'm pretty sure Canada's not too different, just a thought

I suppose if my picture were posted and I was giving a time and an exact place where I was crossing that would be bad. Considering that thousands of people cross the border into Canada everyday, it's not likely they're going to look for me amongst the other hundreds of people illegally entering Canada daily.
My plans are a bit off... besides if drug smugglers can cross nightly this way, I can cross that way....

UnionJack67:
That's a hard path you're choosing, especially when you consider that even *with* a work permit you still may well have a hard time. I wish you luck all the same.

No country is without its flaws. It doesn't mean one can't be proud of theirs while allowing others to do the same.
What's sad is people, regardless of origin, can never seem to be able to agree to disagree and as was said before, choose to badmouth others when they should count their own blessings.
