Anyone have effective home recipes which work well . Something child friendly (no harsh chemicals ) What do use to rid the patio or back yard of these critters ?

Anything that produces Co2(just make sure it isn't you) is going to keep them away from you for awhile. Smoke works wonders. Also Skeeters are not the real trouble, its Deer/Moose flys.

Citronella plants and candles,not only do they smell good they do a good job on the skeeters.
I just purchased a rechargeable bug zapper for my next tour north and I inspected the personal ones that you can hang in a machine or whatever.They look good but shipping anything co2 is not welcome on most airlines so I'll try out the rechargeable and see how it do'es.

They also have a zapper at walmart that emits co2 and claims to keep allmost an acre clear of skeeters. Under $200.00 skins. It runs off of propane(for the co2)

Make sure you have no standing water anywhere in or if possible near your backyard.

The citronella candles aren't bad either.

Throw a bunch of dog shit /compost/kiddies pool full of standing water in to your neighbours yard....and tell the little fuckers to send ya a postcard when they get there.
