Is it too much to ask to express an opinion over something you posted? You know, whether not you agreed with it, or you agreed with it except on this? It's even worse when you reply to someone with a link to someone else's opinion. It's like you are speaking, but there is no message.
Perhaps there is a reason. Maybe some people aren't as elegant at conveying thoughts and someone else has already said it. But it just seems...shallow...to do it over and over again.
Does this annoy anyone else? Can anyone think of a rational reason why people do it?

I will some times wait a while to see what the forum thinks of the article, but eventually I always post on something I submit.

Some do give a quick comment or analysis, but some simply ape some partisan junk and then expect others to fill in the gaps. Let's be honest, the later gets some base intellectual satisfaction because they think they're part of the message, but in realiy they're nothing more than mouthpieces. I think you should, at the very least, provide something tangible when you post a link, article, etc. Good point on your part

If someone submits a link or an article without comment, its always implied to me that either the poster agrees with the article or thinks it is of interest to others on the board.
For example, if someone posts a link to a cancer breakthrough without saying anything, I'm pretty sure nobody is thinking "I wonder if the poster is against this cancer breakthrough?"

Hurley complains(cries like a baby) when I post an article and make the first comment. Lily has also complained about it.

If people are partisan posters, then maybe, but i'm not about to make an assumption on politics. Besides, and he can certainly correct me if i'm wrong, i think dog was referring to subjective issues (such as politics) missing commentary or direction not fairly objective ones like your Cancer example.

Simple solution is to ignore it - people that shove reading assignments at other members with no intention of having a discussion don't belong on a discussion forum - just direct their attention to the blogs section of the forum if that's their preference. I've blocked certain members that never participate in discussions in any worthwhile manner - ie, posting their opinion and never engaging in any dialogue. It's annoying and useless.

Why can't certain people who post articles post an excerpt of the article with a link rather than the whole article?

If people begin a thread by posting an article and opening it up for discussion, that's fine.
People deserve to be excoriated when they dump an article in the middle of a thread, usually as a response to other people's arguments. There's nothing more infuriating than somebody simply posting a link with little analysis other than a "Suck on this" post. I can't stand people who think successful arguing is assuming I have the time and the inclination to wade through their link, look for arguments that support their position, extract them and THEN refute them.
If somebody posts an article or a link in the middle of a thread, please highlight the relevant arguments from it, THEN, post the link. Otherwise, don't waste your energy.

And eventually some intellectually lazy, or likely, stunted, goof will just leave everyone with the kiss-my-ass-i'm-too-cool-for-Pier1 link of "google". It's like, "damn, now deal with the Internet, biatches!"

I don't really see a problem with posting something and not giving your oppinions on it, some people just run by articles that they find would be interesting to post and don't have a opinion on the matter, or don't want to respond to it. Sometimes I'd rather the topic get started first by some other people posting there opinions before I commented on it. It all depends on the day, or person.
Besides, one less opinion is not going to be the end of the world.

This bare link with no commentary is a common complaint on the internet. People should post the subject of a link and/or give an opinion. Most people only skim the posts anyway and if you want to be read you have to state your case.

That's shameless self-promotion. Exactly, the people that get me are the ones who submit an item, give it a + vote....then make some totally trite comment on it....just to make sure it sticks around.....
