People in the US are starting to go to prison for dog attacks, but that's a little too late. People always say "oh, they would just never bite anyone, they're so kind and cuddly, a real teddy bear". Then you see them on the 6:00 news weeping and saying "I don't know what came over him, he's never done that before".

People who cant train pit bull properly should be the exception. Ive know some pit bulls and they can be the gentlest creatures on this planet, it all depends on whether or not the owner is willing to train it to the full extent. F banning.

I think it's a manipulation of the media to only report the news in a way that causes histeria. Pits are the only dogs who have bitten people.

Small dogs are the worse for this sort of behavior... I had a cocker spaniel bite the lip off of my girlfriends little boy, I was bit by a nasty little yap dog that started chasing me when I was a child.

It comes down to the owner. Pitbulls are always being portrayed as monsters. Truth of the matter is, I was more worried about my !50lb Tibetian Mastiff biting someone than my 35lb pitbull...

It all about the owner... Give a getto thug a gun and she's going to shoot someone... give him a dog and it's going to attack someone....

BTW, I hate the fucking american media for blowing all of this up... when's the last time you heard on the news about the notoriously ill-tempered chows? Those dogs are more dangerous than a pit.

I still think the laws should be that if your dog attacks someone and truely hurts or kills them, You the owner should be charged with a jail time criminal offence. That would make sure that owners trained and took care of their dogs properly. Not the dogs fault in most cases, it's stupid assed people that are to blame.

Being a police officer I agree with the replys in majority in that it is the owner(s) who should face jail time for hte actions. In New Brunswick last year a 4 yr old was mauled to death by 3 Rotties and the owner stated he was asleep.
this forum started out on a pitbull ban in ON, while here in NB they attempted a wider range of dogs to include the pit bulls, rotties and dobbermans to mention a few. I have a red doberman female now 10 years old and she is extremely protective of our 3 kids. She got this way after our home was invaded. No trng on my behalf -but she is tied when she goes out and when we take her for a walk she is on a strong leash not some candy ass piece of twinecord.

Went to one call where a youth was attacked int heface in his own yard by the next door neighbors dog - a pit bull. The owner couldn't care less and in fact told to fuck off and get off his propety cause there is nothing the law could do. 2 days went by and the dog was put down under the investigation for rabbies. Asshole. who can do what?? Nothing. I think not. Meanwhile the youth now lives in fear and has the scars onthe outside to show for this morons attitude for the rest of his life. A ban won't work because they will find another breed to raise and there is alot out there. Stupidy is not a criminal offence - but it should be.
