I, and may others, have seen stories come out where because the accused was a soldier, they take great effort to point out what he does for a living. Now imagine my disgust when I came across this in the paper...
Quote:
An Edmonton man accused of sexually assaulting a local teenage girl will stay in a New Brunswick jail pending the outcome of his case.
Judge Mary Jane Richards remanded Christopher William Grinham, 25, following a bail hearing in Fredericton provincial court Wednesday.
Grinham - who's stationed at Canadian Forces Base ********* and was living at *** **** Ave., Room ***, on the base - is charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm to a 16-year-old female complainant in the early-morning hours Tuesday.
The alleged offence is purported to have occurred in Upper Kingsclear.
In a news release, the RCMP stated the complainant was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, treated and released.
The evidence presented at the bail hearing and the judge's reasons for ordering Grinham's detention are subject to a ban on publication.
The 16-year-old girl's identity is also subject to a court-ordered ban on publication.
Now I did what a competent reporter would have done, and removed the accused address. What bearing at all did it have in this story! Every other article I could find only mentions the guys name and doesn't even touch if the guy was a soldier or not.
So I emailed the reporter-

Subject: Address of the Accused?
What’s the deal with reporting exactly where this guy lives?

Not sure to which case you are referring.
The reason we include addresses of defendants in general is for the purposes of identity.

http://dailygleaner.canadaeast.com/cityregion/article So giving a full name, age, where he was born, and even what he does for a living is not enough? It seems every other respectable news source omitted his address.
