The one thing I notice a lot of lately is going to a restaurant and having to wait for a seat even though over half the restaurant is empty.
I went to Cheese Cake Café here in Calgary about a month ago and when I got there hostess took my name and asked me to wait. I was like “ok, that’s fine” even though I noticed that there were only about 8 tables that were being used. So I waited and as I did more and more people started arriving.
Now the waiting area at the Cheese Cake isn’t all that large so you can imagine how crowded it was becoming after there was about 15 people waiting to be seated. This went on for about 15 minutes, the one hostess (there were two hostesses working at the time ???? go figure) informed us that they could only serve 8 tables at a time as there were only two servers working.
The funniest thing about the whole thing is that the 2 hostesses never even blinked when someone asked them why they couldn’t serve them since all they were doing was standing there talking to each other about school.
I use to be a waiter for a while when I was younger. Serving half the restaurant was an everyday thing. The only time more help came in was around lunch and dinner if at all. The hostess when she wasn’t seating people, helped clear and set tables. Rule number one was to get them seated and to get them a drink. Why have restaurants stopped doing this?
