My family and I went out for supper to a Western restaurant tonight that we frequent several times a year. Now, it has undergone a change in management recently and tonight we found out this wasn't for the best.
My wife and I both ordered a bacon cheese burger and when I bit into it, I noticed that it was red in the center. My wife checked her patty as well and noticed that hers was uncooked as well. I waved our server over and pointed out the condition of our hamburgers and requested that we wanted them well done. After 15 minutes we were brought another burger each, but upon checking the meat we found that the outer 2 mm or so was brown but the inside was still red and undercooked if not uncooked. Again I waved over our server and pointed out the condition of our steak tartare, but this time with a request to see the manager.
When the manager finally arrived I explained the situation and my dissatisfaction with the quality of the food and service. The bitch then has the audacity to tell me that my burger, with blood pooling is quite well done. Had it been a steak, I'd have been happier than a pig in shit, but this was a hamburger. She then proceeds to tell me that they use high quality meat and that it remains red even when well done. I replied, 'bullshit!' I pointed to the outer layer of the meat and told her this is what well done meat looks like. It is brown, not red or pink with a fucking pulse. This cnut then tells me, after she was bitch slapped with the obvious, that this is the way they like to serve their burgers in Taiwan and that Taiwanese like to eat them this way. I asked, 'Do I fucking look Taiwanese and did I not specifically ask that my hamburger be well done?' By this time we had an audience. Once again Chinese customer service came into play- take what you're given rather than getting what you ask for, and she tried to use the 'this the way Taiwanese like hamburgers' line again. So I ended it with, 'Fine, feed this to someone Taiwanese or toss it to a dog, I don't eat raw hamburger in Canada and I'm certainly not going to start doing it in the Third World.'
While this is not an all the time thing here, I do notice that Chinese society has a completely different take on customer service that usually has two settings, being mauled or ignored.

I suspect that they might change the way they serve their burgers after a few people got sick.
Anyways.... cheerios are better for you! Add some sliced banana or strawberries, it will make you smile.

It amazes me sometimes how some servers view their roles... I went to a place here in Halifax and the server brought a wrong plate to our table. When I stopped her on her way by to point it out, she started to try to argue that it wasn't her mistake before she clued in and apologised.
Serving patrons in a way that makes them want to come back should be the primary goal of any restaurant, and getting lip from the staff doesn't do that for me.

What really pisses me off is that you have to pay a 10 % gratuity, no matter how shitty the service.

Since when is a hamburger considered a Taiwanese dish ?
In Canada we cook our hamburgers well done for a reason, to avoid dying !
So what did you do Shep did you leave?
I had some bad customer service while buying a pair of shoes awhile ago, I should of checked the shoes before I left I had this waynes world dude serve me, who you could tell didn't want to be at work that day, mumbled everything and didn't give a rats ass.
I got home put on the new shoes, left the house. I felt a little strange in the shoes, something didn't seem right. Went out with my buds, later checked them out the dolt gave me a 11 and a 12.
Went back to the store and said, I bought some shoes here last weekend and your clerk gave me a 11 and a 12 I want 2 , 11's..
"Do you have your receipt ?"
"Yes", I said and provided it to her
"well it appears that you wore them" she said "our policy is that we cannot do exchanges or refunds on shoes that have been worn"
I told her I wouldn't be here if the clerk have given me 2 x 11's in the first place, secondly I added how am I suppose to know that I'm wearing a 11 and a 12 unless I put them on ? Is it common practice to check your shoes size when you buy them to make sure that the Dude, gave you two right size shoes in the first place.
she replied, " I understand but our policy is clear we can't do anything if the shoes have been worn"
I said, "I dont think you understand, I dont want a refund I want another fucking shoe that the same size as my left foot"
She wasn't changing her mind, then I asked for the manager and eventually got the other shoe.
Very frustrating.
I should of told the clerk, put yourself in my shoes...

Well this is not everywhere, but a lot of restaurants in Canada force a 10% gratuity on top of your bill.
Now, I can live with it if the service is good, but if it isn't then their is a trick.
You legally are not required to pay that extra 10% when you use your credit card stroke out the 10% part and write in the bottom line price with tax, then sign.
Your credit card company will only charge you the cost without the tip.
Another thing I don't do is tip at buffets... I don't understand why you would tip at a buffet when you get up and get your own food.

What are you talking about westmanguy? You aren't forced to tip here... maybe the laws are different in Alberta but it's totally up to the customer what sort of tip, if any to leave. Sure most people do it, usually it's closer to 15% now, but it's not forced in any way.

Well you have to get out more Cauncker and stop eating at MacDonlds
I've never had a tip added to my bill in Alberta. I give good tips for good service but i don't tip based on over priced food.

LOL I was just saying that it's not forced or automatically added to the bill. I also give good tips (if the service isn't horrible) because I used to work as a waitress way back in the day and I know how difficult the job can be.
