Since the warmer weather has finally come...I decided to get a head start on things by making preparations to open the pool. While hooking up my pump, I found I had no power going to my shed. While checking out the shed for clues as to why i have no power i found a distinct odor eminating from the floor boards and I believe a skunk has taken up residence under my shed! Anyone know how to get rid of these foul smelling creatures? Living in a rural community can be such a joy. A trip to beer store is definitely in order.

Well, i wouldn't try to scare it out in any way, unless i had a lot of tomato based products available. They would probably fit in a racoon trap, one of those that look like a long box with a pressure switch where you put the bait, in the middle and 1 or 2 trap doors on the ends. And you say you live in a rural community? I'm sure a friend of a friend of yours has one. Don't know where else you can get them but they work good at catching racoons, cats, small dogs, lots of little critters! And they don't hurt the animal.

Thats about as much help as i can provide.

Get the stinky kind. Toss em under the shed. Sometimes this will work.

You can trap them with a live trap then take them out and shoot them/release them, install a light where they are living once they are gone for the night, or you can try some commercially available odor products that claim to make the skunks leave.

Do you have to rip them all off individually or can you toss the whole moth in there? 8O

The worst part is checking to make sure the moth balls are stinky. I find that feeding the moths beer and garlic bread then chasing them around the light bulb for a few hours to sweat it out really helps increase the smell of the balls.

Get a black cat, then paint a white stripe on its back. Then the skunk will not give up chasing it because it is in love with it. Even if the cat takes a plane to a desert isle, the skunk will already be there with a rose in its mouth and all. Perhaps thats why they call them Peppy.

No, he hasn't. You just haven't watched enough. Skunks ALWAYS follow a painted cat. It works, i've seen it many times on TV and i assume it happens in real life that way too!

I have been pondering all of your suggestions to the solution to my problem.
I can probably get a trap somewhere, but how the hell do you get to the trap after you've caught the varment? Transporting the smelly little thing is another concern I have. It's not like you can let it free down the street somewhere....I'm sure it'll find it's way back. (maybe the wife will let me use her car)
The cat thing....haven't seen any black cats around here....got some white ones though....would a black stripe down a white cat work?
Think I will try the moth balls first....hope I can find some moths with big ...........

Hey Bud. No shit here now. Try the Moth Balls they work sometimes. I used to have a small pest control company in Quinte West. I was known as SkunkMan at one time. lol ! Take a look in your Yellow pages for pest control. You should be able to find someone to trap them out for you. It will not be cheap.

Walk up to the trap and throw a blanket over it. They won't spray, I swear ;) I had buddies at the lake that would trap skunks at the lake all the time, never got sprayed.

Please post mpgs of the entire event ;)
