I have been getting more and more annoyed lately. I know I am only 17 years old, but at times I am very opinionated. I believe (98% of the time) in Charles Darwin's theory (the strong survive and the weak [and dumb] die off). People too often file lewsuits for their own stupidity.
I Heard This Story Before, it's from HERE
Quote:
This year''s run away winner was Mr. Merv Grazinski of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mr. Grazinski purchased a brand new 32-foot Winnebago motor home. On his first trip home, (from an OU football game), having driven onto the freeway, he set the cruise control at 70 mpg and calmly left the drivers seat to go into the back and make himself a cup of coffee. Not surprisingly, the RV left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Mr. Grazinski sued Winnebago for not advising him in the owner''s manual that he couldn''t actually do this. The jury awarded him $1,750,000 plus a new motorhome. The company actually changed their manuals on the basis of this suit, just in case there were any other complete morons buying their recreation vehicles.

Also on that website, the person who sued McDonalds because she spilled coffee on herself and burnt herself. Her claim, she didn't know the coffee was hot. Seriously, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS!
SECOND EXAMPLE:
At my school, at our main entrance we have a few steps up (3 feet MAX) to a concrete patio type thing in front of the entrance. Our school, spent money to hire people to weld steel grating onto the railing (instead of using that money to pave the student parking lot) to prevent students from falling through the railing. If a grade 11 student is dumb enough to fall through a gap in a railing, they shouldn't be in grade 11.
Another Point I Thought Of:
Now I know I am not a parent, but if I was, I would watch my kids. Like parents who file lawsuits because their kid hurt themselves (making up an example here) falling off a playground because their kid climbed the rail, so the sue to make the railing higher. Shouldn't it be parents responsiblity to watch their kids?
People Who Complain:
It has been bothering me lately that before almost every show on TV the warning you get "This program may offend some viewers, discretion is advised". If you turn on a program, realize you don't like it, Change The Channel instead of writing and angry letter. People should be able to laugh, instead people now-a-days get offended too easily.

Now people have probably stopped reading this because it is getting long, but it is nice to just state my mind. I even wrote an essay on the topic in english 11 this year and got a 96%. I like this site, it provides a place to Rant, rave, state opinions and worship Canada!

Very nice rant DMP...........LOL.........I have felt this way for years. I think people who sue because of their stupidity, should be put in a home because they are a danger to themselves and others. Like that moron that sued I think it was Macdonalds because the coffee he got was too hot and burned him when he spilled it on his lap while driving his car. The idiot won too, I just about fell over when I heard that one. Hmmmm.....don't we all know that coffee is hot when we get it fresh from the restaurant? What a twit.

We can only hope "natural selection" will finish the job for some of these pinheads.

Natural selection is trying its best, but can't because with all the lawsuits causing all these "safety measures". And about the person who spilt hot coffee on themselves, McDonalds in response now has "Caution: Hot Coffee" on the side oif their cups. Like that'll help, if someone is too dumb to know that fresh coffee is hot, do you think they can read the warning?

The irony is that lawsuits are designed to force people (the defendants) to take accountability for their actions, but have resulted in those people having to take responsibility for other people's (the plaintiffs) actions.

They should have, "Bad, weak coffee," on the sides of their cup. They do server it too hot too, likely in attempt to cover the complete lack of flavour, but that shouldn't be lawsuit material. Calling it coffee should be grounds for a false advertising charge though.

I agree. Some people are morons. Yet, for some reasons, its the morons who for some reason, have good stuff happen to them.

I saw the news article on this site, and figured I HAD to add more to this thread I started. Read article first (like a 3 minute read, it'll help you follow my ranting) Article I'm Ranting About.

WHAT A JOKE! Can you sue for anything in the USA (not to say that Canadians haven't filed frivelous [sp?] lawsuits). So, I could persay, hurt some kid at school and 'technically' he could sue not only me, but say my father for passing violent traits onto me. Well how about sueing my grandpa for passing the traits to my dad. Hell, why not file a class action lawsuit against Adam and Eve (for those who believe in creationism) for causing all the violence in the world? This makes no sense to me at all.

I'd like to sue....hmmmmm....say your great great great great grandfather for killing my great great great great Grandfather in the War of 1812 with no just cause because he wasn't even a soldier. Obviously this is an example, but how far will the courts allow these stupid lawsuits to go before the tell people "Suck it up and shut up!" As always, if my post offends you sorry...SUE ME! Just kidding, I know you probably can, but please don't :P.

Does this mean that all of the civilians killed and injured in Iraq can seek compensation from the US government and individual soldiers?

Man, that'd put a damper on these imperialist wars. I think it would set an excellent precedent Wanna kill and maim for oil? Well, I'll see ya in court, buddy.
