i got a call from a friend yesterday and he asked me to meet him for coffee because he wanted to give me a Christmas gift. i was a little surprised and embarassed because i had not bought anything for him. We met and had some coffee and conversation and then he gave it to me..... my gift. It literally was my gift, i had bought it for him this past summer and now he wrapped it up and gave it to me. i was very upset but very politey thanked him and walkd away.

This was so wrong no matter how i have tried to look at it. It has been on my mind all day and has had me very upset.

Yeah that is pretty rude, Ive had it happen to me too.

I regift all the time, but I try do it for the same gift giving event or close by so there is no risk of giving it back to the same person. I dont do it to hurt the person, I just hate wasting anything, if I cannot regift it within a month I donate it generally. I guess it could be considered kinda mean but I hope that osmebody else might be able to enjoy it rather than it sitting on a shelf of mine never to be used.

Generally anything nonfood or without your name on it is regiftable.

Uncle Joe got a hand grenade as his gift. Fortunately the safety pin was not removed so it didn't explode when opened.

I've re-gifted in the past, but I always make note of who gave it to me so I don't give it back tp them accidently. That would be embarassing and I'd never hear the end of it.

This year I'm re-gifting a Starbuck's gift card (don't drink coffee) and a Home Depot gift card (don't care much for the place). Both were given by my boss, so I'm giving them to in-laws.

re-gifting is rude, never done it, never will.
I guess I can understand if it's something you never use and you know the person you are giving it to will love the gift. but re-gifting a bad gift, or re-gifting something that the person gave to you.....that's just wrong

Ive already regifted a bathset, a mug, a book, and a gift certificate this year. I actually would have loved to keep all of them but I am a bit short on money this year so this way everybody still gets somethign good.

Gifts we get here usually end up as gifts to others when we go home for visits.

I don't re-gift, my my mother's aunt does. Infact, she's re-gifted everything my mother has ever given her. We occasionally debate on even giving her anything at all because she hasn't kept one thing ever. We find it rude.

Instead, we thought of making it harder.

This year, we are giving her a puppy, let's see her re-gift this!

If he Re-gifted my gift to me because he had forgotten i would have laughed but he knew. When he handed it to me he said "You know what this is?" i wanted to be wrong so i ripped off the wrapping paper and there it was. i had given him a print for his office, Pine Island by Tom Thomson. He loves the group of seven included Tom Thomson so i thought it was a great gift. He said "i think this will be great for your new office" i was hurt. He did not have to give me a Christmas gift at all but instead he decided to be a jerk and re-gift to me.

He loved it when i gave it to him. We are both fans of the Group of Seven and this past summer we went to The McMichael Art Gallery. We had a great time looking at all the beautiful paintings and sculptures. We had lunch in the lovely town of Klienburg and then shopped through the many art shops. He was with me when i bought it for him. i can not understand his reasoning for doing it. i am too upset to even ask him why right now but i will in the new year.
