One little bit at a time. Some solutions, post your's.
#1)Turn off the freaking lights! We light up highways and roads where 1 frikken car may drive through in an hour.Anyone who flys at night can see this,a total waste of electrical energy.Where I live theres 60 frikken lights between my town and the next one lighting up the highway for no reason, most people arent out at night and the one's who are usually are good enough drivers that they dont need the road lit up so bright that you can drive without headlights.
#2)Ban cars in all major cities, build huge park and drives at the edge of them and force people to take public transit or the rails which should be planned in advance for these huge park and drives.Lets save the petroleum products for the rural people who dont have public transport, plus the people who work in the energy industry.
#3)Build more windmills and make it more efficient so it's cheaper then regular power.
#4)Ban clear plastic water bottles and others which cant be re-used like the white one's can.

I used to be a big fan of the "Mother earth news book" untill it got political.
I find that no matter what lifestyle you want to live, city dweller or in the sticks living off the land,it takes about the same amount of labour to be happy.
Tending the garden and canning for winter or working on the rigs and making payments on that new truck,it's all about the same amount of work.

Hear hear!
Also ban plastic shopping bags, all of them, everywhere. I don't care if your store wants to put cute promotional crap in a little plastic bag so I can throw it out at home, because I don't want it in the first place!
Bring a backpack or a bunch of those cloth or recycled material bags when you go shopping. Refuse to have your groceries put in plastic bags.

How about only selling beer in kegs
If you have the space, use a clothes line and lift all bans on them.

I have a drying rack that fits on my balcony in the spring/summer and in the bathtub in the winter. Saves alot of energy and money at the laundry mat.
another one is WALK your children to school...not only does it benefit the environment, but the kids will be in better health. Oh, eat whole foods, stop buying take out, fast food, convenience food...it is full of chemicals and the packages it all comes in is a waste.

Thumbs up to beer in kegs, clothes lines, checkout plastic bags etc.
Get rid of stupid packaging such as 24 brad nails in two layers of plastic, or a single 1/4" bolt in a package that would hold 12.
Remove all traffic lights, replace with roundabouts, no more wasted gas idling at stop lights. This would also create thousands of new jobs at body shops. The tow truck drivers would save gas as they could all park at the roundabouts.

Yes too much packaging....I reuse every thing from bread wrappers to margarine tubs. It is my position that clothes dryer wear clothes out prematurely---where did you think the lint comes from. I heat with wood....the clothes line in the living room beside the stove can swiftly dry anything....I do all cooking on the wood stove during heating season including heating water.
I know it's the simple life but I am confortable...
My woods stove seems to be magnet on a cold day---people and dogs.

Always buy the biggest possible individual package of something - but refuse to buy those supposedly larger packages that actually just contain more than one regular ones wrapped in extra plastic (even if that's more expensive).
Don't use straws. Ever.
Wash clothes with cold water - all the time.
Buy detergeants without phosphorus. I don't exactly have to buy that stuff just yet but God knows I'll be on the lookout when the time comes.
Turn off the lights at home when you don't need them.
Turn off the heat when you're away.
And above all, if you get a house built, make sure there are lots of windows on the south side, and if possible a lot of vegetation on the roof/walls or simply around the house.

Turn off the lights and the heat? How does buying a new toilet everyday save the enviroment? Quote: Turn off the shower while lathering up.
Then it gets cold. Besides, 20 gallons or so isn't going to make the pump work that much less

It's all about the long-grain rice and beans. And garlic. Lots of garlic. And curry. And water chestnuts.. and cashews.. and..
Ok, stopping now.
But seriously. Make enough food to last the week.
Planning is key.

Well I presumed that when you ment turn the heat off you menat adjust it to 15 degrees.
I have this empty house and when it started freezing I tuned on all the incadecent lights; it saved the pluming until I could get some electric heaters.
