Quote:
Pope Benedict XVI has has created a new church structure for Anglicans who want to join the Roman Catholic Church.

Cardinal Joseph Levada, the Vatican's chief doctrinal official, said Tuesday the new legal entity will allow Anglicans to join the Catholic Church while maintaining their Anglican identity and many of their liturgical traditions.

Levada said the new structure is a response to the many requests that have come to the Vatican over the years from Anglicans who want to join. Many Anglicans have become disillusioned by the ordination of women, the election of openly gay bishops and the blessing of same-sex unions in the 77-million strong Anglican Communion.

I believe the RCC has also promised that Anglican ministers, even married ones, will be allowed to be "priests" in the Church.

If the marriage occurred before their conversion, the marriage is still valid, and doesn't have to be broken apart (better to have married priest, than a broken marriage).

Yeah, I guess I just assumed that using the past tense of marry made that clear but apparently not  [B-o]

Oh, lol. Sorry I was just telling you you're right, without actually saying it.

Heh. I shouldn't post after midnight.

Thas ok  I just realized after what you posted, that what I said may not necessarily infer the condition that it be a pre-existing marriage. [B-o]

The vatican has always allowed for this when married Anglican clergy returned to the Catholic Church. Hopefully it will bring change within the Roman Catholic Church as a whole. Celibacy was never supposed to be forced on clergy. it was supposed to be a personal choice. One has to only look at the history of the early Church and see that priests and bishops were married men.

It blew my doors off when I learned why it became forbidden for priests and bishops to marry. Then after some quick reflection, it really wasn't all that surprising why it was forbidden

I actually STILL have no idea. These are one of those things that really need to change.

Really? Well if I remember correctly, it had to do with priests willing the property they had, to their sons after they died. This took the land away from the Church. Land=money+power and the Church wasn't going to have it's wealth and power eroded away like that, so the "law" was enacted. I may have oversimplified it but that's essentially it from what I can remember. It was a WHILE ago when I saw that show so I could well be forgetting another part of it.

Hopefully this'll open the door for Catholic Priests to marry, since they seem to be running out of Alter Boys.

Their biggest malfunction is two issues, the ordination of women and acceptance of gays and lesbians, IMO. And when I think about it, that makes sense in a way I can't quite put my finger on. Seems to me the two are connected. Anyway. The Vatican is happy to welcome Anglicans who want to continue marginalizing women and keeping them down, and who demonize gays and lesbians. There's some fierce resistance to sharing power with women and with accepting different sexual persuasions, and the Vatican is exploiting that.
