The subject of 3D printing came up recently on a gun thread here. Some seemed interested in this. Not just the make your own guns angle, but 3D printing in general.

By coincidence a video turned up this morning in my YouTube subscription list. The Libertarian media outlet, Reason TV, interviews somebody from a commercial 3D printing outfit. It explains it all pretty good, and goes into the future of the technology.

I saw this in a work environment spring 1994 in Memphis. Super cool but it's been around for years. My company used it for making working prototypes but I also saw the machine make a ship in a bottle. It was using a liquid and laser medium to make them. 8) 8)

It's cool technology. You can rapidly make something to test fit and finish, without having to go through a sometime very long process to create a part.

It's also really neat for home use. Did part of your 10 year old Espresso machine break? Will it basically cost as much as a new machine to get a new knob, and will it take 8 - 10 weeks? Print yourself a new one from a file someone posted on the internet!
