Starchoice is what I got and so far it's been very good. They had a deal which I think gave me quite a rebate for joining them. Think in the end the dish and recvr. was either $50 or was free because you got a bunch of months for free.

Hmm, not bad. That'll be my second choice. I'd never go with Bell. My dad got one a few years ago, and decided it wasn't for him so he cancelled the service. They asked him for the dish back. Since he paid $200 for it he said no I don't think so. Then they tried to charge him money for not returning. Bunch of crooks. I believe now they actually make you sign a term contract I think.

Yeah, but I use the eastern channels mostly to catch some shows earlier.

Does anyone have HDTV? If so at what resolution. 720p? 1080p? I'm thinking of getting a sharp aquos 37 that is 1080p, but a friend of mine has a panasonic that is 720p and says he doesn't think the 1080p will make any difference. If it's not gonna be noticeably different I would certainly go with a lesser resolution and price tag.

Size does matter. Bag for buck wise the 720 will go far. Shaw provides the new HD boxes with high quality cables so you will have very hard time telling the differences between the two types. 1080 will have more resale and be the more recognized standard.

So I sent Shaw Cable an email. I asked them why I can buy the exact same HD cable box from Rogers cable for $150 dollars cheaper. Not just a similiar box, but the exact same model from Motorola. I also asked them if I could trade in my old digital cable box for a discount on an HD one. Well they must employ politicians in training at Shaw. The response I got was a complete listing of their HD channels available and a plug about their latest promotion which is $10 dollars off the total entertainment package if you buy an HD box now. WTF? where's the info about why you are gouging your customers? Where's the info about trading my digital cable box in. Hell I can find a list of channels on the website. Damn Shaw is starting to not look good. If only it weren't included free in my rent.

Actually, there is a tangible difference between 720p and 1080p, even on some lesser sized sets. I upgraded to the whole Blu-Ray deal. Regina's sort of right though, I don't notice 1080i or 720p unless I've been watching 1080p Blu-Rays and switch back to normal HD channels.
And even then, I retreat to my earlier statement, there IS a difference, but if your set can do 1080i or 720p (sucks to be you early adopters with only 1080i) don't bother with 1080p.

For the person who was spying a Sharp Aquos. Be warned, the 1080p set is a fantastic television but Sharp (stupidly) has an identical set that can only do 1080i and 720p for the exact same price. Make sure the set you buy has 1080p or Full-HD stamped on the box. If you've already bought it, check your spec manual for its resolution. If it's 1366x768, you've got the 720p set. Go back to the store you bought it at mad as piss. If it says 1920x1080, your set can do 1080p.
