Does anyone have HDTV? If so at what resolution. 720p? 1080p? I'm thinking of getting a sharp aquos 37 that is 1080p, but a friend of mine has a panasonic that is 720p and says he doesn't think the 1080p will make any difference. If it's not gonna be noticeably different I would certainly go with a lesser resolution and price tag.

1080p is what you want. I have 4 devices that display 1080p but only only one device that will output it.

I'll wait till fall for a BR/HDDVD player. Right now 1200.00 is a bit steep.

I have a Philips 42" Plasma with ambi-light. It's a 1080 HD and is pretty sweet, wish I'd have switched sooner. You just need the HD programming to make it all work.

The resolution is the same, it's the method of scanning. i is interlaced meaning two passes per frame and p is progressive scan meaning one pass per frame. Progressive scan will give you a better picture.

I don't think I'd have good enough eyes tell the difference......maybe if they were side by side or something.

I don't think anyone can tell the difference between 720p and 1080 either. Unless you have like a 60 inch screen.

I think you're right. From what I've seen the input signal makes the greatest difference. Flip from a non-HD channel to a HD channel both with the same program is like night and day......especially for something like a hockey game or the Discovery Channel.

I think if I end up getting HDTV I'll just stick with a monitor than can display 720p. I don't plan on getting anything larger than 37-42 inches anyway. Now my only problem is Shaw. I currently get free cable at my apartment, and I have a digital cable box. To buy an HDTV box from shaw would cost 447 dollars. The exact same box from rogers is 299. That just irks me. I could get an HDTV sattelite system for about 200-300 but then I wouldn't have the free cable every month. I sent Shaw an email asking why they charge almost 150 more for the exact same reciever then Rogers does. I'll be surprised if I get a response.

When I got the plasma I also dropped Shaw and got a dish at the same time. One thing about a dish that I like is the huge selection in channels. Even with the basic package you can watch any of the local CTV or CBC stations from Halifax to Vancouver. A friend of mine doesn't care for Shaw digital and is getting a dish. He has a dish in his motor home and said the TV is better there than in the house.

So far I enjoy Shaw digital. I have all my eastern channels, all my discovery and national geo channels. Life is good.

I'd drop it too in a second if I wasn't getting it free with my rent.

I know..........pretty hard to ditch something when it's for free. Although you can always keep it and have a dish at the same time.

We'll see what kind of response I get from Shaw. I had Starchoice a few years ago and I liked their service. Of course they're a Shaw company as well but their HDTV receiver is much cheaper.
