At least it's not zombies... besides, we have the 3 rules of robotics to protect us. 8O

- A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
- A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
- A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

It's a logical step from drones, to armed drones, to armed drones able to acquire their own target. Who says the target they pick will always be the right one?

True for human controlled planes and drones as well, as we've seen. The same question will arise with automated cars. Who's responsible if there's an accident? I would say the human owner in both cases.

Or given the credit when the car avoids an accident. ;)

I don't think so. Cars aren't totally autonomous yet, and they aren't armed. You can still blame a person for the car accident, because a person is technically still at the wheel.

But an autonomous robot with lethal weapons would not be operated by a person. It would not be able to make 'people' decisions, like it that a dangerous person with a gun - or just some good ol'e boys out duck hunting?

There are far too many variables to allow autonomous machines with lethal weapons the ability decide on their own targets.
