Hello,

Bell is down since 2 days and I don't have internet. I'm at a neighbour house and we are trying to setup an ad-hoc connection so that I can have Internet.

I'm trying the howtos on the net but it doesn't seem to work.

Did somebody ever do this ?

What sort of ad-hoc connection? Are you going to string a cable from his house to yours, or what?

Hmm. That's interesting. I've done it at my place, with one computer with wireless and ethernet cards wired to a computer with no wireless so both can have the internet. In that case, on the hosting XP machine, it's about as simple as going to settings > network connections, opening properties on the wired card and poking until you see some option to share internet on this device or something and turn it on. Shared internet with a linux machine that way. Unfortunately, I'm not on tht machine right now.

It also might be difficult with the wireless because host devices and client devices can't necessarily do both functions all the time.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I think he's got a wireless USB adapter, so that a computer with a USB port can get onto a wirelss network, and he wants to plug that into his neighbors computer and use it to host wireless, which he has built-in to his laptop.
