You're assuming I care what you believe - I posted the videos for people who might want to watch them, because they're well put together, thoughtful, and the guy has a cool voice.

People like you, who just get defensive about any mention of faith and admittedly aren't interested in participating in the discussion, should just go away.

This seems awfully important to you, BN.

Religion isn't the only domain of fanatics. Some people replace it with politics or another cause.

Uh huh, that's why you can't let a single post of mine on religion go - where are your complaints if the topic is global warming, or terrorist attacks? Only my posts on religion get your attention, and all of them have had your attention, and then you claim you're not being defensive.

Go away.

Gee, I dunno. I wasn't aware I had to participate in every discussion here.
You don't even have to participate in this one, which I've been trying to make clear, yet you continue to whine about it.

If you posting a knee-jerk reaction to everything I post (even when you apparently don't even read it, or in this case watch it) it isn't defensive, I don't know what is.

A majority of the problem when trying to argue for or against creationism is that people do not understand the true background of the creation story in Genesis. Most of that has to do with the fact that a majority of creation-believers (of which I'm one) rely solely on the old King James translation of the Bible.

This was translated in (I think) the 13th or 12th century using wording and terms that the average layperson could understand at the time of the translation. If you look at the origional Greek and Hebrew and research (as many Bible commenaries have) the origional meanings and contexts of the Word, you will see where some things were translated close but not quite right.

One key verse involves the creation of the Earth. Two different Hebrew words were translated into one english word. Genesis 1:1 in the origional Hebrew states that God created the heavens and earth out of nothing. Genesis 1:2 in the origional Hebrew states that God RE-created the Earth out of something that already existed. This implies that there was an unspecified amount of time that existed between verse 1 and 2 and is supported by many other references that are too long to list here.

One of the best commentary Bibles that researches the context of the origional Hebrew I have found is by Dake (aka the Dake Bible).

This allows for the explainations as to why the fossil record clashes with the strict view of the 6-day creation. It is actually a 6-day RE-creation of the Earth.

the bible is not scientific interpretations will not change that there is nothing scientific about the creation story in Genesis

Plus there's nothing even remotely close to resembling the so-called "firmament" that's got holes in it that the sun and moon pass through, dragged by chariots in the wind.

He has confused enlightened with willfully ignorant which is quite a good term to describe creationist fundies.

enlightened means to me to have a knowlege of, that I didn't have before. Now I believe in God after having searched out truth in the bible. I read it with the predetermined mind to prove people wrong about their beliefs. Seems mine got changed instead. Blissfully ignorant....no, just have faith in what I believe. Like I did when I was an atheist. :)

I had the opposite experience. There is little in the Bible to enlighten. Certainly contains some Wisdom, but the same Wisdom is available from multiple sources.
