I ripped the wiring out of my $40 Sennheiser headphones, and I'm hoping I can try to fix them before thinking about buying a new pair. I can solder them, but I don't have any clue what the original wiring was.

I took a photo that will hopefully be useful: the three leads from the jack are shown and the two that lead to the other earphone. If anyone can be of help, I'd greatly appreciate it. Even if I can be directed to a proper wiring diagram.

They're Sennheiser PMX 60 "neckband" headphones.

Thanks!!

Here's a page with a description of the standard plug.

The tip of the plug is the left channel, the ring is right, and the sleeve is ground.

All you need now is a multimeter to determine which colours correspond to those contacts.

Looking at pics of your headphones I see they're the kind where the wire goes to one side, and then the other side's wire goes through the neckband. If the soldered red white in the pic go to to the other side through the neckband, my guess would be that you should just solder the red and white from the plug to the same contacts, and the blue to the contact without any wire on it.

That's just my guess.

Short of going to a store and asking them to open one up or emailing the manufacturer, I'd go with the process of elimination. Since the actual speakers would be the same, assume the two wires are connected identically. The third blue wire must have a terminal that it was attached to so it should be the lump of solder with possibly a strand of wire sticking out. Don't know why there would be three wire in one and not the other but it's obvious in the wire sizes going to each that it's not a mistake.

If you're really luck maybe someone here has the same set and can show you the way.

Do you know how to use a multimeter??? if you do, using Hurley's link, identify what coloured wire is what. ie: Ground, left and right speaker. from there you can resolder your headphones.

If you have any problem, PM me your phone number and I will walk you thru it.

Thanks guys!! I'm going to give it a shot... the tech here at work who does all the electric/tronic work said he can fix them, so I'll see what he comes up with :D

I'm guessing, from what you guys have told me, that the red wire that leads to the other (right) headphone is the right channel, the black is the left channel, and the "white" (which is really just the bare wire) is the ground. I have no idea where they go, though!

Thanks again!
