Much has been said of the subject, and there are a good deal of supporters for both sides of the argument. Do any of you think it's possible?

Just a little tidbit to throw out there...

Six hundred years ago, it was a "scientific fact" that flight was impossible. Six hundred years later, we are making steel beasts fly faster than the speed of sound...

I believe it is. We just don't have the technology to achieve it yet.

"Impossible" used in such a general statement isn't scientific - it needs to be prefaced with something like:

Given our generally accepted understanding of the laws of physics...

or

Given the technology availble to us today...

I'd say our best bet for travelling large distances quickly is the whole wormhole/space warping argument - I don't think that's technically travelling "faster" than light, though, since you're really just travelling a shorter distance than light would.

The impossible is often proven wrong.

So I've come to expect anything and believe that virtually anything may be possible.

Now now Mr_C. Aren't you being a bit overly optimistic here. Try teaching an American to locate their country on a map and you'll see what I mean.

Better yet, ask most people to find Sweden.

Why stop there. We're still talking about the U.S aren't we?

"Is faster than light travel possible?" I'm not sure but I think I damn near did it on my drive back from Edmonton to Calgary the other day. XD

I think it is possible but in a non-linar means such as string theory. A sort of dimentional door between point A and B short cut but as to FTL itself I don't see anything currently that is suggesting it can be done. Never say never though.

FTL - Farts That Linger.

Quite a few years back I read an interesting story about FTL travel. In it, ships that broke the barrier punched into another reality. Each time they travelled, the reality they arrived in was a little bit more removed from their own.
