Simply put there are more and more cases of people shinning high intensity lazers that can travel many KM's into the cockpit of planes.

Some 'hobby' these idiots people have. I know someone who has a lazer like the ones in the article and it can light a match across the room. I can only imagine what it can do to a pilots eyes. Might temporarily blind him or worse cause permanent damage. Not something you want when the pilot is taking-off or landing.

What do you guys think should be the punishment for something like this?

Death. That should be the penalty for the murder or attempted murder of a planeload of people.
