Why don't you tell us who you really are SystemTV?
I am from Holland so firstly my language isn't so good and quick, secondly I am participating in some American's forums since a short time

and I think that answering like this is a sign of mental illness - because you for sure are religious person, so you in fact are mentally ill
Actually I'm a non-thesist (or athiest if you prefer) I have no belief in a higher power, but neither do I believe that there is a correlation between anyones faith and mental illness, not this day and age when religion is continually taking a back bench for so many in the western world yet mental illness is on a definate increase. Personally whoever would put serious study into weather religion is causing mental illness or not obviously has an anti-religious agenda and is incapable of conducting such research in a non biased and fair way.

I won't claim I'm not mentally ill though. You may want to explore the genetics before you delve deeper into the religion. My brother in law has phsycosis and there is a 20% increase in the chance my son will as well because one of his male relatives does.

Religion has been the cause of many problems. Religion does not save people from burning in hell, neither do works among ppl who because they perceieve that they are good get saved from God' eternal wrath. The bible plainly states, from birth there is none good, no not one (save the Lord Jesus Christ) On the flip side, just about any mental disorder can be flipped to a spiritual weakness which may have been generational, or simply aquired from the staggering mass of evil we are subject to on a daily basis. There is the answer to all of this, The third member of the triune God Head, Lord Jesus Christ, lived, died a substituionary death for the sin of all manking, and is now resurrected at the right hand of the father in a glorified physical body NS interceding for the saved on earth who temptation and death for their sin he had to endure, for he was sinless becuase he was a mangod, fully divine, fully human and mortally aware of the wretchedness of the human condition, but never in sin himself. The religions which purport that they can become Gods comes from the earliest lie satan ever told, but these Jews, Buddhist, Muslims etc., sadly go through the gates of hell by the millions. When people one day find this to be the case and God forbid, stand before him at the great white throne judgement to explain their lives for maybe a million years, they will then find our that God and his word was the only truth that ever existed in this world. Take Jesus into you heart now, you will not regret it. Do not take religion, it may lead to your ultimate undooing. Let all those who wish to refute me take up their degree in Theology, read the entire bible, and explain how many muslims/buddhist/newagers they khow of turned their lives around like the Apostle Paul on the road to Demascus, they know of none becuase it never happened. This is the difference between religion and true saving grace through the lord Jesus Christ.Jesus met Paul where he was and his life never got better, he wrote 13 inspired books of the new testament. Today, millions more have turned their lives around180 degrees from something headed to the depths of hell. No other so called religion in this world has ever, or will ever unless they circuituously send this person to Christ, can claim this. That is the difference between Christianity, not mormonism, catholicism, jwism or any of the cults, and all the other isms, they are of man and are absolute a folly.

Seems to me that both Darwin and Nietzsche were atheists and supposedly non religious, both were certifiably insane when they kicked their respective bucket. So much for your theory
actually Darwin struggled for years as to release his work or not due to his faith. He decided in the end one way or another that people deserved the truth.
The man was fully baptized as a child and brought into the church of England.
That and you realize that Nietzsche was not nearly so much anti religious as anti "Religion is morality" he sought to have people establish a new system of values where moral choices were not reliant on what he saw as a select few people telling the rest of us what morality is.

Religion isn't a source of craziness. In the sense you should be labeled crazy for being religious. However IMO praying to a person that you cannot see and is supposivly all powerful in a big sense would be considered crazy. That is if the fact it had not been socially acceptable due to the generations of adopted beliefs of the matter.
If religion was never invented, nobody believed in a god than somebody came up to everybody and stated there was a invisable man in the sky who dictates how we should live and we choose to disobey him. He will send us to hell where we get tortured the rest of our lives... or if you happen to be gay, despite the fact you were born that way in "gods plan".
You would almost certonly be considered crazy and sent to a mental hospital. However religion does spawn a lot of very crazy nut jobs. If religion had a better control on all it's extremists, I couldn't care less if they believed in a invisable guy in the sky. That's there buisness. If it is considered mentally ill for doing so, in theory yes. However religion is a belief system, people choose to believe what they want to. Just like how people choose to believe in evolution rather than believing some all mighty god created everything.
I personally believe the world would be a far better place without religion, I mean all the years when religion was dominant over western politics. Science took a very long pause, like the Christian dark ages. Hell, we could have been colonizing planets by now if we had a extra hundred years of scientific research. It's only a couple more years or less before they start directly confirming habitable planets. They have a satalite roaming space specificly designed for that very purpose as we speak.
All the violence, mass killings in it's name. Infact I believe almost every single current day crisis is caused by religious fanatics on many sides. If it isn't natural disasters, it's religious nuts. If people however feel comfort in believing in religion. Not really our place to disagree with there choice, or call them crazy for doing so.
