Me and my daughter are building a miniature igloo and in the instructions it says to add sugar to the water before freezing it into cubes. I am wondering what the purpose of the sugar is.
I thought of posting it in science puzzle of the day, but it is more of a straightforward question than a puzzle.
So, any of you chemistry science types have an answer?

Adding anything to water changes the point at which water freezes.

Adding sugar makes the ice melt faster than pure water. I don't know what part this is supposed to play in your experiment.

I'd say the sugar is simply to make the ice cloudy - nobody wants a see-through igloo!

I think you might have it there. Good thinking.

Are the cubes individual? I imagine with sugar that the cubes would bond to each other better when the igloo is built...
