DrCaleb DrCaleb:

Russia will abandon Soyuz on orbit, fly up a new one to bring crew home

$1:
Russian officials believe Soyuz MS-22 is still flyable in an emergency. However, without an efficient way to radiate heat during a six-hour return to Earth, the interior of the spacecraft could overheat. This could damage the flight computers used to set a precise return trajectory and put the crew at risk. Krikalev said the temperature inside Soyuz MS-22 could reach the low 40s Celsius (105–110° F) during its return to Earth. The concern about crew member health is as much about humidity as it is temperature in such a scenario.

The James Webb Space Telescope Is Finding Too Many Early Galaxies

$1:
Evidence is building that the first galaxies formed earlier than expected, astronomers announced at the 241st meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Seattle, Washington.

As the James Webb Space Telescope views swaths of sky spotted with distant galaxies, multiple teams have found that the earliest stellar metropolises are more mature and more numerous than expected. The results may end up changing what we know about how the first galaxies formed.

An asteroid will whip by Earth tomorrow in one of closest approaches ever recorded
$1:
The U.S. space agency said Wednesday that this newly discovered asteroid will zoom 3,600 kilometres above the southern tip of South America. That's 10 times closer than the bevy of communication satellites circling overhead.

The closest approach will occur at 7:27 p.m. ET.

3,600... that is fairly close but not close enough...

$1:
An asteroid the size of a delivery truck will whip past Earth on Thursday night, one of the closest such encounters ever recorded.
$1:
Even if the space rock came a lot closer, scientists said most of it would burn up in the atmosphere, with some of the bigger pieces possibly falling as meteorites.

Not big enough anyway.
