A short film discussing and visualizing magnetic fields was shot at NASA's Space Sciences Laboratories, UC Berkeley.

(As if there weren't enough phobias regarding electromagnetic fields)

Killjoy post, so I put it in spoiler tags:

At one point they show field lines emanating from one point of a wire, looping around, and rejoining the same wire further down its length. However, magnetic field lines induced by current in a wire loop around the wire, never touching it, just circling it. They also show magnetic field lines stopping dead. This doesn't happen.

Stunning visuals, to be sure, but they don't seem to show anything like the true behaviour of magnetic field lines...

The narration seems to suggest that the visuals represent whatever the "hairy ball" analogy is referring to - she (an actual researcher) mentions open field lines projecting out from the surface that don't loop back.

But yeah, the movie is described as "not precisely scientific".

Why do you say they're invisible? I see them all the time.
