Accoring to an article I read at canada.com (http://www.canada.com/sports/story.html?id={891B78A2-0832-4F1F-A05A-5AF3395E3E58}), there had been some discussion regarding the removal of both baseball and softball from the Olympic Games. While Baseball has only been a medal sport since 1992, and softball has been a women-only event in the olympics since 1996, another suggestion was to remove the modern pentathalon which is an event that dates back to 1912.

While it was thought that the removal of these sports would make room for sports such as golf and rugby, no fianl decsion was made, In fact the IOC had decided to wait until after the 2004 Games in Athens before making a decision, which protects Athens from these proposed changes.

Any thoughts? Do you think such chances would help the Olympics? Could it hurt them? What do you think about this matter?
