I think they started yesterday, and they are getting almost no attention. Bad timing for the summer games - right after the Olympic Winter games, and during our winter. I think you can follow them on TSN.ca, I don't know about any TV coverage.

I only heard about them yesterday in a narticle in the Edmonton Journal sports section. The timing isn't very good. It's hard to get excited about summer events when Edmonton is covered in a blanket of snow...

They should have Winter Commonwealth Games. The winter games would always be held in Canada and it would be total domination by Canadian athletes. Canada's mens hockey team would be assured the gold medal even if the NHL didn't let their players compete!

Man, I don't think there are many other commonwealth countries that would be able to compete. Australia and Britain got a combined 3 medals in Torino...

This isn't about the CWG, but it's been a great few days for Canadian winter athletics...

Cindy Klassen set a new world record in the 3,000
Crispin Lipscomb won a snowboard World Cup halfpipe event
Thomas Grandi 3rd, Geneviève Simard 2nd at a world cup event in Sweden
Dominique Maltais won gold in the snowboard cross in a world cup race in Japan
Beckie Scott 2nd in a world cup race yesterday
Paralympic Games, gold in Sledge Hockey & Weelchair Curling, along with some other medals

Commonwealth Games

Not looking all that golden this time round.Think we set the medal expectations to high.
If we meet our expectations then its.. well that was expected.
If we lower the expectation,and beat it then our athletes performed above what was expected.
Then maybe more money will be available for sports programs from Sports Canada.

Australia should be a model for us to follow, as far as summer sports are concerned.

We don't just need hard $$, we need special facilities built around the country dedicated to elite athletes, which would be made available to them for free (Like in Australia, thats why they're so good).

We need an own the podium type program for summer athletics, look at how much we improved our winter medal haul with it.
