Manchester City have been crowned the Champions of England for the first time since 1968 in dramatic and almost unbelievable circumstances today.

Manchester City and their rivals Manchester United went into today, the last day of the season, level on points at the top of the English Premier League, with City above United thanks to a much better goal difference. So a win for City would almost certainly have won them the title.

With just minutes to go, Manchester United were leading 1-0 against Sunderland and Manchester City were losing 2-1 against west London team Queens Park Rangers, meaning that City were staring at their first home defeat of the season and looking to gift the title to Manchester United. City looked to have ruined their chances of becoming Champions for the first time in 44 years.

However, in what was surely the most dramatic few minutes ever in the twenty year history of the English Premier League, Manchester City, looking to have thrown away their title chances, scored two goals in the five minutes time added on at the end of the match to take a 3-2 lead, which is how it finished. The second goal came from Sergio Aguero, Diego Maradona's son-in-law. When the final whistle blew City fans flooded onto the pitch to celebrate with their players.

Unbelievable drama and shows why the Premier League has so many fans around the world.

As a United fan, I am just gutted right now. I have no fingernails left, my intestines are still twisted up, and seeing City lift the cup made me retch...

And Joey Barton....what a colossal dumbfuck.

It's an awful lot nicer than it used to be. Back in the good old days, the air was unbreathable and the rivers were a most peculiar colour. For decades after the war, there were bombed out buildings strewn about the place. The film The Whisperers gives a good impression of Manchester fifty years ago.
