250 million people play football/soccer - I hardly think that it's a game for wee kids to play. Nice try at being condescending.
I wonder how many people play ice hockey? I can appreciate that many Canadians enjoy watching hockey, but, personally, I'd rather eat my own foot than be made to watch an entire hockey game.

I know alot of people like world wide but we are talking Canada and US, Atleast where i live in BC, when kids are in elementary school its played alot and in Leagues outside of school. But wjen they get older most usually play contact sports its still more popular at an older age.
And hockey still rules Canada, in BC some schools are now having hockey programs where you can learn stuff you dont usually learn till NHL, that cant be tought in minor leagues because they only have time for getting you ready for play in that league no trick passes and shots.
I'll admit soccer can be alright but its to defensive and boring most times i've watched a game on tv atleast
