That still better than being an Amerikkkan

(Please note: I am only making a reference to those hypocritical, prejudice scumbugs who wear white linen on their heads and say they do so in the name of God.)

Hi,
Ok here I am.Now let's talk about Hockey :?
Do you really think that there should be so much money, meaning paychecks, put into a sport?
I know what you will say, that you have to pay for the best.
But if a kid who wants to play the sport so bad would play even if there was not such a big pay.And where does it end and who is paying for it?
Really now, Ron McLean has set the standard for future broadcasters. He told them what he wanted,he never got it, so he went public. Smart guy, he knew hockey was right around the corner and the public was fired up to see it ( and him ). I still can't see why so many people rallied around this guy. It is a job that he chose to do. He was making good money before ( and now making more ) But does this really show good values to the younger kids growing up? They are already brainwashed by enormous salaries payed to the players, now the broadcasters are starting. If Ron wanted the big pay maybe he should have gone into the rink instead of the nice warm broadcast booth.
The last time I looked, if you did'nt like your pay you went to the boss for a raise not the public. And if you did'nt get it, then you found another job.

I can see where you are coming from, BigBarrieBoy, mind you I think broadcasters have a bit more leverage than some athletes do, and in many cases where someone like MacLean gets the money he is asking for, all the power to him. The egos in sport, especially hockey, have been going on for far too long. Remember back 12 years ago when Eric Lindros was drafted by the Nordiques, and he refused to play because he wanted to play for a big-market team. What does that tell young players coming up in the system? That even if you haven't proven yourself in the ranks of the NHL yet, you can get what you want? How many rookies have been locked in to long-term big-money deals, and in the end were not worth the hype? Too many. At least MacLean has been doing his job for a long enough time, and doing well enough that the people were supoortive and believed he was worth the money, where many of these players aren't.

I like Ron....Coach's Corner wouldn't be the same with out him....nor would Hockey Day in Canada. If Im not mistaken, they gave Don a 1.2 million contract that year....they offered Ronnie Mac 400 grand. I would be insulted if my co-worker was given 3 times the money as I was for the same work...who wouldnt be pissed off enough to quit?
