Yeah I know. Me posting in the sports forum. What odds? But I just watched something I felt the need to comment on.
The so called professionals from the big league sports could learn a lot from the guys in the X-Games. I just watched a guy pull off a trick in the BMX competition for the first time ever. The crowd went bonkers and then he was mobbed by everyone of his competitors. They were as happy as he was that he pulled it off. After they were done dog piling him they went around working the crowd up again.
These guys are all competing against each other for the same prize money and sponsorships yet they all cheer and root for each other. These guys in these fringe sports seem to understand the concept of sportsmanship. And this was not just in the BMX. Was the same in skateboarding, rally driving and freestyle moto-x. Impressive bunch.
Its refreshing to watch isnt it? Was watchin' the Gravity games a while ago and saw more or less the same thing.
I remember one BMX street competitor who wiped out attempting a back flip... got up to continue then realized his bike was broken. He picked it up... BODY slammed it then gave it a big elbow drop.
He came in 13th but got the biggest ovation of the night.
The only thing that worries me is with the success of the likes of Tony Hawke and Ricky Carmichael and the money that seems to be slowly seeping into the sport can they keep this from becoming just another "Pro" sport?
I hope not.... theyre a BLAST to watch!
