Hello everyone this is my first post ever on this site so ill introduce myself as Nick from Yellowknife.

I dont know why but other than a short story in the Yellowknifer I really havent heard much at all about the polar bear, grizzly bear hybrid that was shot and killed by an American hunter on the southern tip of Banks Island. It is so sad that we know the polar bear's habitiat is disappearing at am alarming rate and will face extincion within 50 years, yet we still allow Americans to come up here and shoot them so long as theyre willing to pay the right price. Even Aboriginals hunting polar bear in my eyes would be controvertial enuf but Americans I mean c'mon.

Now on the matter of the hybrid issue I personally believe yet havent looked for/seen any scientific evidince that this is how evolution may work or at least one of the ways, wich makes this all the more infuriating this may have been the birth of a new species that would have reproduced and filled the niche that polar bears may leave behind. Now we may never know. I really wish there was more of an oproar over this issue.

Heres a link to a National Geographic photo and short article regarding the bear.

Editing here because i found out how much he payed to exterminate an entire species. $50,000 dollars wich is also the going rate for any run of the mill polar bear wich i say is still far to little.

errr i cant post a URL yet GHEY!
Just google it.

I hope that hunters very proud of his wonderous achievment

I read that story last month.Seems the bear was just a freak of nature but it should have got way more coin then it did.

Think it was december issue of "up here" that had the story of the 9 year old girl that shot one of the worlds biggest bears in Alaska.
