Quote:
Dog recovering from owl attack in Sherwood Park

A bichon shih-tzu named Bailey is on the mend after she was attacked by a great horned owl in Sherwood Park on Tuesday.

Owner AJ Lebrentz let the pooch out for a pee at about 10 p.m. and noticed she was taking longer than usual to do her business.

She went outside to check and made a grim discovery.

. . .

"She's got a heart murmur so they think maybe she passed out from fear, instead of the flight or fight response that would be expected," said Lebrentz.

It's the first time Lebrentz has seen an owl in the 25 years she's been living in Sherwood Park. But it's not the only recent sighting.

I had a little company show up on my windowsill at the office...a peregrine falcon!

Beautiful! A very majestic bird.

We have them nest in the trees around here in the summer, as there are a large population of their favourite food - pigeon. :)

I actually have almost the exact picture as your falcon , but with a pigeon from one of my office windows. But I've just moved my Laptop to Fedora Linux, and haven't found a way to sync my phone to my desktop yet, or I'd post it.

(tinted windows rock!!)

Our windows are mirrored and that makes for the occasional treat of up-close bird watching!

and piles of dead birds on the ground outside of them. They had to put tape on the windows around the university I worked in to keep birds from flying into the large mirrored windows. Had a couple macaques try to jump in the reflection too. That was funny.....stumble, shake its head..... take a few steps.... shake its head.... and look suspiciously back at the window..

I've never seen a dead bird near the buildings where I work. Our windows are only tinted though, not mirrored.
