Being ever the cynic and seeing the shit that bad people do to the rest of us frequently, I am loathed to relocate to a nice warm, cheap home as most of them are firmly placed in the Third World. As in Third World police, judiciary, accountability and social structure.

Ever watch 'House Hunters International'? Great show but it alludes to some of those issues on some of the shows.

PostFactum PostFactum:
Ok, I'll write some commercial for you :)

What about few villages in my region? :) Only 300 Km from city, plus x - remark on mountain land. 300*x km from Capital of Galicia! Only this few years, fresh air, hospitable people. If you'll bring truck of vodka with yourself all men in settlement will think that you're an angel. Low prices ! (Having 100$ you're feeling like Abramovich in London), possibility to work on land, rivers of Borshch and Tonns of Purohu, 2 Ukrainian TV chennels and one Polish( in best case). For example, you live in famous big city of Toronto? You're moving minimum of time? Weak body muscles? Unnecessary weight? I know best decision! There, without any gas, you're having a unique chance to cut firewood every morning and the whole days in the fall before winter time. Can you imagine how lucky are you?!! Tired the way others are speaking? That's only good side !, there ,most of people don't know how to write correct on their own language, if you will find someone who speaks English there, I'll cut my finger ( I'm not kidding). Are you and old and poor man? You don't have enought woman attention, no money ? Oh man, you're in heaven, when everyone in the village will start to know that you're not alcoholic man who just settled, even the women of all nearest settlements will be taking by storm your house (I'm not even talking about village that you live in, you will have to build bunker or something like that). Are you Canadian? Yes, you're right, I'm asking you! Being the representer of Ukrainian frienship nation, especially for you will be organised 1 month drunk party with beating of Russians who lost in forest. Expensive ? Are you kidding? Let's count. 1000$ plane ticket to Kyiv + 50$ train ticket to Ivano-Frankivsk + 3$ train to the mountains and 3 days of walk on your own! You see, everything is obtainable!. On 1000$ you can live a year here. Hunting, fishing and hiking. Any questions? Just write them here, I'll answer.

P.S. I'll be your personal free guide just for permission to look on.

:D :D :D [B-o]

What about those tiny Carib nations/territories that dot around the larger ones, like Barbados, St Kitts and Nevis, US Virgin Islands, Guadeloupe, etc? I heard they were highly developed and safe.

The key word is tiny-tiny, tiny, tiny.

Everyone knows everyone else and everyone knows everyone's business-there is no privacy in a place where most people are related.

Politics is a snake pit, law enforcement a joke and religion a poison.

Unless you've spent a lot of time there-and I've been to a number of Caribbean locales for extended periods-you have no idea how religion has poisoned those places-although a case can be made that it's not as bad as it used to be certainly not as bad as the South Pacific.

So it seems like paper box from fridge is the best place for your living. (Without offences)

Not to mention the overbearing climate of racism. Good to be a tourist, but Mr. Whitey is not encouraged to stay longer in many places.

The biggest consideration that many ignore is healthcare. If you're planning to retire to the Caribbean, you need to consider that the quality of healthcare is significantly lower than in Canada no matter where you go. As you age, you're bound to have higher healthcare demands. If you have a family history of heart disease, for example, you need to know that you're not likely going to have access to critical care, like angioplasty, in the Virgin Islands or Bahamas, etc.

Medellin is a fabulous place-a stunning city brimming with art/culture and music-if I was younger I'd move there at least for a while.

As to health some of the best heart specialists in the world have practises in Medellin.

A person would need at least elementary Spanish language skills though English is relatively unknown

Is it that bad? I heard about the rumours of Rhianna being called "whitey" in school, but I wasn't sure if she was seeking attention. Again, I've never been to the Carib so it's all word of mouth, is racism that bad in that part of the Americas?

BTW we're not talking about Haiti here lol, but Barbados, US virgin islands, etc, those are developed nations, etc.

And for healthcare, the Caribbean is renowned for some of its best doctors and medical schools.

Then there's always Reunion, it's about a million people and gorgeous.

And how big are these Islands? How long before you've covered every square inch of it? Islands make me nervous, even Vancouver Island. Australia, that's my idea of an Island.

Yes. I have family members that that lived in the Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Jamaica - and white racism there is rampant. They tell stories of not being able to pick up packages at the post office, because they get 'lost' and when found the somehow are empty boxes (despite me knowing I sent them Christmas presents). Other stories like all the white workers getting scheduled for 18 hour shifts, split into 2 9 hour shifts with 3 hours between each. Many more horror stories that aren't attributable to just abusing 'staff'. If you are a tourist, they seem to hold their thoughts to themselves, but someone who lives there gets it 'in your face'.

I don't know about Rhianna though.

'kay now, I thought white racism was whites being racist. In fact I thought only whites can be racist. These poor people of color are just reacting to years of exploitation, first by the colonials, then by these neo-colonial tourist flashing their wealth around every where.
