You've no doubt heard of the 'birther' conspiracy theory surrounding Obama's birth certificate. As far as new conspiracy theories go that one's the tip of the iceberg.

Politically charged conspiracy theories are nothing new. Under Bush we had 9/11 conspiracy, Skull and Bone, Neo-con world domination, and assorted small ones.

A new generation of conspiracy theories are popping up under Obama. Sometimes it seems like they're coming at a rate of about one a day.

The average mainstream media viewer is not aware of this, I don't think, but I go where the righties go, because that's the way I'm bent. I hear things.

I can be your mole. I can show you what's going on in the inside.

Honestly, you lefties have got us righties freaked. I was a reading a comment on a blog where this one guy said he does his own dental work. He's afraid of bugs, you see. That would just be a cute story except a couple of fellow commenters chirped in with "me too".

Ok, so here's the latest conspiracy talking point, from the right...

I'll infiltrate the right wing underground for you, and try to find some more.

Obama conspiracies are driven largely by partisanship, paranoia and ignorance. With Bush, the Neo-Con label wasn't far off the mark (esp if one looks at the PNAC members), but the 9/11 stuff was nonsense, but with Obama where is even a shred of evidence? There are NO pieces of pusuasive objective evidence in the Birther crank case, so i'm not sure this compares with W.

Sorry Mustang I can't help you. I'm going to try to remain objective, and just produce the info.

I can tell you the latest talking point in "Birtherism" is the claim it's not about where Obama is born. The claim is it's about honesty.

Andrew C McCarthy explains it

That's a long one, so I'll try to whittle it down for you. The idea seems to be Obama has been caught in so many lies, he must be challenged on every small point.

The small point in that particular case is - this one.

That's not my argument. That's what I'm hearing.

But hey, there's already threads about that. You're not going to hijack my thread are you? Don't, OK? Please. I want to show you other stuff.

Oh wait. You were talking conspiracy theories with good basis in fact. The Righties have some of those too.

There's some fascinating stuff surrounding the proposed new cap and trade bill. Stifled reports, and bogus ones to replace them, 300 pages of late additions that none of the people voting on the bill had a chance to read. Lots of dirty tricks, all leading to the conclusion the bill is not actually about controlling carbon emissions. It's about gaining control. Socialistic micro-management of people's lives, and all that. Lots of good support for that one. Hints at global governance. It's also about what's seen as the Obama false campaign claim of "no new taxes".

That's an old one though. If you want to see it I'll show it to you, but I wanted to show you the new ones popping up.

If you mean that by introducing informed skepticism as "hijacking" then i'll be sure to ignore your posts, but if you produce anything by "Birthers" as "objective" then you're already a part of their intellectual relativism and despite all calls to the contrary, a producer of subjective, argumentative fallacies.

I've dealt with conspiracy cranks for years and i understand well their tactics, rationalizations and agendas, so you're more than welcome to try and remain objective, but so far, that's really not the case

I'd lump all conspiracies into this. Even the Bush ones.

With Bush, the Neo-Con label wasn't far off the mark (esp if one looks at the PNAC members)

I'm going to ask why being labeled as a neo-conservative is some sort of conspiracy theory. It's just another ideological sect of the conservative political spectrum. I always considered conspiracy theories as crackpot ideas about 9-11, Kennedy assassination, so on and so forth.

I only offered to try to be objective. Even I'm not hopeful of succeeding.

Here's what I'm thinking. You guys are noticing this kind of Republican paranoia that's expressing itself in conspiracy theories. I'm noticing it too.

I want to watch it. I invite you to join. I being of conservative bent think there must be some sort of rationale as cause. Others of course, believe they are already up on the cause. Anything right of Iggy is a symptom of mental retardation. That's cool. I'm not saying shut up. I'm saying I can't argue with you about it. It's my person rule of conduct for this particular thread, put upon me personally, by me. I'm going to try real hard to obey myself. If you ask me for evidence of something, I can show you what the guys in the rightosphere are saying about the issue, but I can't argue with you about it. That's my rule. By all means though. You should feel free to rant your brains out.

In fact here's one you're going to love to hate. I've posted it before, but I think it's going to catch on with a healthy sized section of the christian right. I know the contagion is already present. I'm thinking it's starting to spread. Might make mainstream news some day. You know, like on CNN, "Hey, look at these nuts". This, I believe is what believers are calling new evidence

Oh and Commanderkai, what I presented as a conspiracy theory was world domination by neo-con. That was a big worry on the conspiracy board I frequent at one time. There was a popular British documentary which insinuated it. I can't remember the title. Was it "Climate of Fear"? That sounds like it might be right.
