Savage has a long list on his blog, including Gingrich's ads with Nancy Pelosi, his past infidelity and the fact that -- no matter his intelligence -- when he appears on TV "he will come off badly compared to Obama and look like nothing more than what he is: a fat, old, white man."

Ouch.

So, after a lengthy diatribe in all caps, Savage offered Gingrich $1 million to "set his ego aside" and "take the money ... and don't run."

Savage said he will reveal further details soon.

But it's true. Savage is such a creep that the British labelled him as a hatemonger and barred him from entering the United Kingdom. Just because he's correct about the existential slime of Gingrich doesn't eliminate Savage's own defects of character and personality. Glenn Beck actually blasted his former running buddies in the Tea Party movement as racist the other day. Essentially correct but it doesn't erase any of Beck's flaws or any of the damage he's wilfully done to the American body politic. Ditto Savage and his comments on Gingrich or any other of the GOP'er gomers.

Michael Savage stands out among right-wing talk show hosts for his remarkable anger and sense of doom, not for his remarkable views. For example, he is for availability of handguns for self-defense. He defends this view with a story of meeting a homeless man in San Francisco, high on crack and ranting about the doability of passing women, who has a handgun with him and threatened to "pop" a Muslim cab driver "if he tries anything." The moral of the story is about the same as the conservative mainstream -- laws against guns only disarm the law abiding -- but the telling of it describes a San Francisco infested with an army of drug-addled minds awaiting some trigger before they burn the city down. To hear him talk, you'd think the world was already a post-apocalyptic nightmare, street drugged zombies looking to slaughter the good people. That's not conservative or liberal, that's Left 4 Dead or the Matrix. It's just nuts, a horrible fantasy with barely a superficial resemblance to reality.

His issue positions aren't what make him a radical, his angry irrationality is. You can't measure anger or rationality or character flaws on a left-to-right scale. He's not farther right for defending the same views with less rational basis, and he's not further from you politically just because you like him less. When you denounce bad logic with bad logic you make it worse.
