Brent, was it the son that pressed charges against his mother? I find it remarkable that any prosecutor would take on this particular case; it wouldn’t seem like an obvious choice to help build a reputation for “getting tough on crime”, if the prosecutor had political ambitions. (I’m not familiar with BC politics, so I don’t know if the prosecutor now has name recognition throughout the province.)<br /> <br /> Raising a child on one’s own is a daunting responsibility. From my vantage point, the Crown judging acceptable and unacceptable forms of child-rearing by determining parental misdemeanour is rather surprising. |

In BC the kid can only file a private criminal information, starting an investigation. It's up to the chief regional prosecutor , a guy named Bob Gillen to decide whether to go ahead with charges.He's the same guy who told me that police are allowed to lie in court, with umpunity.<br /> Brent |
