Well, sold-out or not, Tim Horton's _is_ a Canadian icon. *shrug* For reference, the ranks currently stand as: Timbit, Double Double, Beer Hunter (really need a replacement for this  , Hoser, Canuck.
Admin and Moderator are hardcoded, and don't get custom names. Everyone together: awwwww. |

I know you said we need to get onto more important issue Kevin but your last post raises a good point. The use of a "Canadian" icon to sell non-Canadian products. Molson does it, to the extreme it could be argued. Many clothing companies put a maple leaf on their product, and dare I say Petro-Can is going that way? Anyway, it pained me when Wendy's tookover Timmies but I never realized Country Style was a Canadian company. I walk by one every morning to get to class and I always just assumed it was a US company because here in BC we have WAY too many US companies. |

Since it appears we are going to be a little competitive here, I want to know how to up my rank, I don't want to be a double double for ever  ...how do I graduate to a 'hoser' cause that sounds like a real great Canadian to me?

I try to shop at Canadian clothing companies too, like Smart Set and Roots and others. I avoid GAP and American Eagle and others as much as possible. Although I am mad as I heard Roots is moving production out of Canada now. |

I thought that roots already had done that. I always check tags before purchasing. JUst to make sure If you want to buy Candaian made products one of the best places is actual Wal*Mart if you can believe it. NIce strategy though I spose Hey Ignore the bad things we do we sell Canadian stuff!!! Maybe this site should start a list of Great places that are all Canadian, or maybe it already does and I look like a dumbass |

Well, we had been set to support a "buy Canadian" campaign that was going to be spearheaded by Canadian Democratic Movement. But that's kind of been on hiatus. <p> I suppose we could set up a list of Canadian-owned companies, and a list of foreign takeovers. But that would actually need to be a whole other site, as a project of this one, I think, with volunteers keeping an eye on new sales/acquisitions. As Mel Hurtig says, the sheer number of companies being sold out every day is overwhelming and it would take several volunteers for us to track that effectively. <P> Might be a good idea for a project though, and maybe we could still get CDM's help. <p> PS If people don't like the timbit and double double ranks etc (beer hunter makes me cringe personally) we have another topic set up to discuss alternate ideas. Welcome Polo!!! Hope you keep coming around to discuss here!! Maybe we ought to check for other sites that already do this first. It's *possible* that there is a fairly current list out there somewhere already. A buy-Canadian campaign is the type of thing that the government may even fund if the right channels of power could be exploited. A website with the history of how each company was bought out would be awesome. And of course a list of the still-Canadian companies would be great! I'd bring it with me everytime I went shopping. |

If a site hasn't been started for this, I could start a "buy Canadian" site. It might take a while. If you know of any Canadian Companies please post them and I'll start digging around for more info. |
