Are they made in Canada? What is this crap about the whole world being able to see that an intervention was necessary in Haiti, it was an invasion and the only ones who thought that was necessary was Canada, USA and France. The intervention was asked for in January when the US backed thugs, err ahh I mean contractors, invaded.

Milton, the "official" story is still that some Haitian rebels overthrew the government. I mean, sure they were driving around in Cadillac Escalades, but that doesn't stop them from being jungle-based guerilla warmongerers, even if they DO happen to have American passports.

I believe the official story. I just think the rebels had a little help from Santa and the Easter Bunny. ;) These ships are definitely a positive development. They can go through thin pack ice (considering our present capabilities that's a big step) and signal a readiness to fulfill our international responsibilities. The massive time frame is troubling, and there is real need to define our international responsibilities, but we need some new boats and these look pretty good, at least to a guy from the prairies. I hope that we plan to build them ourselves. I hope we still have a real capability to do so. I hope that we use them to do what's right instead of what's convenient.

That's the only problem I see Rev, the article doesn't state who is going to build them. Sure hope it's the shipyards in St. Johns.

Are these the "aircraft carriers" that harper had referred to during the election? If so, why would he attempt to take credit for this if the plans for these ships have been in development for over ten years?

Alas, it was not to be.

The Navy is finally getting the first of it's new ships 14 years after this thread started ... Asterix the AOR and Harry DeWolf the icebreaking littoral AOPS.

You would never have guessed either in 2004 or that it would take Ottawa a pathetic 14 years more to launch anything bigger than an Orca.
