Our little heinz 57 variety dog we found as a puppy in a dumpster, tied up in plastic bags.

Some heartless bas**rd had tossed her in to get rid.
Quick trip to the vets, check over, shots etc. That was ten years ago.

The dog and the cat sleep together.

I would like another dog, but three is a lot in an unfenced neighbourhood. I love all dogs, so I keep changing my mind what I would like. But... I think I'll adopt a greyhound. 50 mph couch potato. They are docile and love lying around the house.

If you live in an apartment, or don't want a dog that needs a huge yard, consider a greyhound. There are plenty out there wanting adoption.

We're very lucky in that we have one of the six puppies from our Golden, so she is still with us in some ways. Eleven other people are lucky to have her from a previous litter she had.

Here's one that may make you feel a little better about loosing your pet.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Post subject:  Yeah, life sucks sometimes.

My dad finally had his old Dixie Dog put down in the spring, about two years after it became easy to see that it would be a mercy to her. We were worried that he was going to pull the old, "What's the sense in getting a dog when it'll probably outlive me?" routine, but I was just interrupted by the "adult male" mostly black lab(With a good dose of Newf tossed in, by the paws.) That he picked up from the pound in Belleville about a month ago. For an "adult male" it's done a good bit of growing since he got it. I'd say it's going to end up about the same size as a '58 Volkswagon.

I've had neighbours put down our dogs and put down a few dogs, cats and who knows what for them; even done a few of my own. I think that's what bugs me most about this story; you should be forced to do it yourself, even with an injection, then maybe you'll think a little harder. peace.

DREAMS
by Larry Tilander

He hunts through forests filled with game
and tracks down every deer
No buck can move too quietly,
the slightest sound he'll hear

He runs through brush and over swamps,
he leaps o're fences high
Up hills and down his feet so swift
he often seems to fly

My ragged, matted, crippled Butch
beneath the table lies
His mouth all full of rotted teeth,
while goo drips from his eyes

He writhes and scratches at the floor,
then whimpers from the pain
But I know in his dreams, as mine,
we hunt as one again

For old I am, and ravaged too,
all bent, and stiff, and lame
So I just sit and watch the youths
go out in search of game

They say, come let us shoot the mutt
and end his misery
But when I see him chasing dreams
I'd rather they shoot me

After reading all these posts I sat and realised just how much my little Buddy means to me.. and my wife.. we dont have kids, (except the grown ones and our grand child) and buddy is so much like a child sometimes... Its so nice to get home after a long sometimes miserable day at work and see him there at the door waiting so happily to see me that it does lift the spirits a bit, and makes the day seem not so bad after all...He may just be a dog to some but im glad hes a part of my life anyways...

Post subject:  It could be easy.

A pill wrapped in cheese or a nice tasting drink. I know mothers who have pulled their kids off life support and held them until they died. That is hard.

I have to stop coming to this thread.

Lyle's only 7 - in his prime. Roxy's only 4. This is making me miss them.

people should really do research before buying a pet.the animal shelters are overflowing with animals that people got on a whim.
